July 21st 1843,
Dear Sir
A Mormon Elder is now at my house, and is anxious that you see a letter written by an Elder of your church then at Greenbush in Warren County, and sent to this office to be mailed and was mailed on the 18 Inst.
The postage was not paid, and I have forgotten to whom it was directed, but I believe it was directed to Majr [blank] who is <one of> a committee in .— The letter (if you can see it) will tell you what the Hon should have [s]aid disrespectfully of you in Greenbush a few days since in presence of your Elder.
I felt confi[den]t that would be at your place in a few days, and probably would try to pass as a friend, and as he did not appear to relish the Mormons much when here a few days hi[page torn], because he doubted [1 line illegible] ought [page torn] [to?] see th[is?] letter,
It is known to but a few <here> that a letter is sent to any person at giving such information, a[nd?] I hope you will inquire for it and be succes[sfu]l in finding it
